Epson’s history of environmentalism goes back to the 1940s and 1950s, when their parent company, Seiko (the ones who made the famous watches), conducted thorough wastewater processing before drainage to Lake Suwa, Japan. During the 1970s and 1980s, Epson and their parent company introduced facilities that consistently saved energy and resources, establishing and following anti-pollution standards that were stricter than government regulations.
During the 1990s and into the 2000s, Epson received several prestigious awards honoring their efforts at ozone protection, introducing groundbreaking company environmental policies and beginning recovery and recycling programs for used Epson ink cartridges in Japan, Taiwan, and Europe. Epson also continued to establish superior technology for reducing and eliminating many harmful solvents and chemicals in their manufacturing processes, set historical precedents for achievement of zero emissions at several major production plants, began recovery and recycling of used ink cartridges in the United States, and developed earth-friendly packaging. In recent years, they have continued to receive “green” awards.

When your print job isn’t up to par, you can get rid of smudges, white lines and reduce paper jams by simply cleaning your printer. Most inkjets have a self-cleaning process you can access from your printer’s control panel. If that process doesn’t remedy the problem, try one of the following.
1. Inkjet cleaning cartridges flush dirt and debris out of clogged printer nozzles, restoring the quality of your prints and prolonging the life of your print heads. However, take care that the cleaning fluid you use is approved for your brand and model of printer.
2. Before cleaning inside your inkjet, turn it off and unplug it. Let it cool down if necessary.
3. Dust, hair, and lint from inexpensive papers can gum up your printer’s rollers. A computer vacuum is usually a safe way to remove debris.
These short, easy tips should help any printer and its cartridge be it Epson ink cartridges or an HP printer.
Preventive Maintenance
Regular cleaning and maintenance will go a long way toward extending the life of your printer. In general, your printer will not require much maintenance, but you should make it a practice to clean the outside whenever you replace the printer ink cartridge. Simply wipe it with a damp cloth, but be careful that no moisture gets inside the printer and be sure to disconnect the power before starting. If necessary, use a soft brush or a computer vacuum cleaner to remove lint and dust from the sheet feeder and paper path. Placing a cover over the printer when it is not in use is a good idea in order to keep dust and foreign particles away from the print heads.
On and Off
This may seem like a basic thing, turning a printer on and off…How can that be a problem? It isn’t unless you turn it on and off from a power strip. Never do that. When you turn a printer off, it parks the heads in a very specific place. Shutting the printer down from a power strip may by pass the normal shut down procedure and the heads may not be parked properly. This can lead to the head drying out and becoming clogged.
